01. Major Works
The following five paintings in this Major Works section are priced at a level that assumes the potential collector will require an in-person viewing prior to making their final decision.
Collectors living within proximity of the San Francisco bay area are invited to schedule a private viewing.
Unfortunately, the logistics involved in transporting these artworks beyond the greater Northern California area are exceeding complex. Because encaustic paintings are more delicate than works done in oils or acrylics, custom-fitted shipping crates manufactured by specialists are necessary. As a consequence, transporting these paintings solely for the purpose of a viewing is unrealistic.
Collectors not within easy traveling distance of the San Francisco area are encouraged to consider reserving any Major Work that interests you. When your schedule brings you to the Bay Area, a private viewing will gladly be arranged.
WHAT COLOR BLOOD
The starting point for this large encaustic painting is a stenciled quilt created in the antebellum South, circa 1830. The original quilt’s proportions, color scheme and intricate detail are respected — but also modernized with encaustic’s signature heavy impasto and the addition of a flagrantly eye catching burst of blood red color reminiscent of a comic book explosion. The left and right edges are inscribed with text painted in black against a black background.

THE VIEW FROM ABOVE
Frame 313 of the Zapruder film’s explicit record of the JFK assassination is the primary visual reference in this large encaustic work that is approximately 6 feet, 5 inches in length. Other imagery includes a reinterpretation of Albrecht Durer's 1504 engraving “Adam and Eve,” an infographic-style diagram, the Texas School Book Depository building and an unidentified National Rifle Association speech-maker. Using metallic enamel paint, the edges reproduce a selection of gun-related slogans commonly found on bumper stickers.

QUILT 2: MATISSE
